Attending the Crawley Inter-School Public Speaking Contest22-11-2016
Garth from Pinnacle Furniture attended the Inaugural Crawley Inter-School Public Speaking Contest which took place on 18 November at Civic Hall.
The Contest saw six Crawley secondary schools competing for the title of best public speakers. Three students from each school spoke for ten minutes on the subject of ‘Democracy’ and were then judged by an expert panel on their confidence, enthusiasm, and the flow and structure of their speaking. The event was arranged by Henry Smith MP to mark Parliament Week which aims to help connect people with the UK Parliament.
The winning school was Thomas Bennett Community College, closely followed by the runners up of The Gatwick School and Manor Green College. Pinnacle gave a prize of £100 of furniture to the winners who also won a tour of the Houses of Parliament by Henry Smith MP.
Henry Smith said; “The panel of judges told me afterwards that it was extremely difficult to choose the winner – I’m glad I didn’t have to give the team their scores! It was a close contest and each student did their school and teachers proud. My thanks to the judges for taking the time to be part of this event, and to Crawley Borough Council for allowing us the use of the venue. Additionally, I’d like to thank Pinnacle Furniture for donating the £100 of furniture to the winning school.”
