Learn About Our Project With St Martins School
29-03-2021As part of the Government’s programme to improve every child’s educational environment, St Martins School in Gibraltar had an entirely new build campus built on what was a playing field of a former school. St Martins Special School is the only SEND school in Gibraltar and therefore needed to be designed to meet the requirements of pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
The 2–storey building consisted of 15 classrooms boasting new furniture and a state-of-the-art TeacherWall to house the touch screen TVs, and teacher and pupil resources. Our Interior Design team created a holistically designed furniture palette to compliment the building’s interior for the mindfulness and wellbeing of the students and staff.
We designed the teaching spaces to have a full height locking TeacherWall system for resource storage with an integrated full height TV zone that is lockable behind a shutter door. The TV was mounted on a specialist mobile trolley that allowed for PMLD engagement whilst lying on the floor or using mobility equipment. When in its ‘parked’ position, integrated cabling between the laptop drawer and the TV alcove enabled the teaching staff to connect and teach using computer-based resources. If required, the TV could be shut away to avoid distraction.
