Take care of your mind

12-05-2021

This week marks the 21st year of Mental Health Awareness Week, a week to encourage everyone to start a conversation about the importance of protecting your mental health.

This year’s theme is ‘Nature’. Research by the Mental Health Foundation has shown that many people found being in nature helped them cope with the stresses and strains of dealing with the pandemic.

“70% of UK adults said being close to nature improved their mood.”

The MHF recommend enjoying quality time, feeling and experiencing the joy of nature around you, the sights and sounds that you may have not noticed before. Nature has a unique ability to not only bring consolation in times of stress, but also increase our creativity, empathy and a sense of wonder.

If you can’t get outside to enjoy nature, there are many ways to bring nature into your home or workspace. You could get a pot plant, use your balcony, listen to the birdsong, or even watch a nature documentary.

At Pinnacle we have been working with our clients to embrace nature in our designs:

At Broxbourne School, we increased the use of natural wood finishes in the design. This has a calming effect on the overall design. All our wood products in our capacity storage ranges are FSC certified with chain of custody.

In Kensington Park School, we clad the walls of the dining hall with wood to create a modern look with a nod to nature.
