The Brief

The reception area at Ashford School was also being refurbished and the school wanted the counter to make a statement to demonstrate the progression of the school to visitors and parents.

As we worked closely with the architect throughout the project, we spent quite some time looking at the reception counter and creating visuals and concepts for the client and architect.  The school wanted to retain the open and friendly feel to the reception while bringing in an element of safety for the staff.

The final reception counter design was open, bright and stylish and met all DDA regulations with a recessed modesty panel in the centre.

What we did

The counter was made from 50mm thick work surface and curved blue acrylic panels overlaid partly with brushed stainless steel that had been water-cut with the school name. Signage in the reception area included the school logo shield and a crucifix made from the same material for continuity of the corporate feel while bringing in the schools religious values.

Fitted storage was also installed in two locations for tidy and easily accessible filing capacity. The storage in the Admin office behind the reception counter was manufactured in the same blue and oak finishes as the counter.  A TeacherWall made from light oak with sliding whiteboard doors was installed in a classroom – this had to factor in the added complexity of the sloping ceiling but the final result was very pleasing.
