The Brief

The old flooring within the room was replaced with Polysafe mosaic flooring with a decorative flake design.  This flooring is made from slip resistant vinyl with an easy clean coating, making it a good choice for a food technology room.  Fitted worktops were installed around the perimeter of the food technology room.  The worktops were manufactured from Solid Grade Laminate which is ideal for a food technology environment as it is hard wearing with excellent chemical resistance and is impact, scratch and moisture resistant.  The worktops provide the students with a large work area during lessons and also house the electrical outlets, gas hobs and sinks for use in practical work.

As well as fitted storage, a number of Candy 24 tray storage units were supplied, each with a mixture of shallow and deep trays in a variety of bright colours.  These units are designed to withstand the rigours of everyday use and offer cost-effective and flexible storage solutions for classrooms, with the carcass and tray colours being customisable.

What we did

The school purchased brightly coloured stools that are similar to the Titan range that Pinnacle offer.  These stools give excellent durability and offer a varied colour palette to suit any classroom design.  The stools were chosen with a sled base for added stability, strength and safety as they are harder to tip and prevent any possible damage to the vinyl flooring.

The room was also supplied with a height adjustable desk for DDA compliance.  The height is adjusted via a hank crank, and the flexibility in height allows the workstation to be used at the same height as the other work surfaces in the absence of disabled users.  A further 2 height-adjustable frames were fixed to the wall with a sink and hob.

Further works in the room included plumbing, electrical and cable work, and the installation of taps and appliances such as the ovens.  The finished room provides the students with a bright and colourful learning environment that is practical and durable.
