The Brief

The building was a learning hub specifically for students with learning and physical disabilities and as such it incorporated a wide range of areas to support various subjects.  The desire to create a statement location for the college combined with a vibrant seasons theme for the furniture, colours and graphics ensured a uplifting and enthusing learning environment.   Among the areas furnished were classrooms, IT suites, art and textiles rooms, corridor and café seating, and an open teaching area with reconfigurable furniture and reception counter.

The challenge was to find furniture that was suitable for the students requirements, within budget and had the style and colour to complement the seasons theme throughout the building.  There were a large number of rooms to furnish and all rooms needed flexible furniture, height-adjustable facilities and furniture suitable for physically disabled persons, so it was no small challenge to tie the complete FFE package together to create a consistent look and feel.

What we did

The open teaching area in N.E.S.C.O.T was central to the building and had a variety of formal and informal furniture for flexible and multi-use teaching for up to 60 students.  The space was designed to provide a tranquil yet inspiring atmosphere for the students, and a place where they could interact with students and teachers that they may not have met in a traditional learning environment.

One of the prime goals for the college was to increase interaction between students, hence the corridors were very wide and had seating and a café break-out area where sixth form students could socialise together.

At the café, the students could also sell food that they had made in their food technology courses to bring an added dimension to the facility.
