Downsend School

Location: Leatherhead, Surrey

The Brief

Downsend School, founded in 1891, was originally a prep school just for boys. Now, due to the popularity of the school, it has spread across three separate sites located in Leatherhead, Epsom and Ashtead and is now uni-sex. The art room in the Leatherhead school required a much-needed update. The client appointed Pinnacle Furniture to bring some vitality back into the space, ensuring it would allow for different learning methods and contain plenty of storage. The art room was a particularly important part of the school as many prospective parents showed interest in it.

In the brief, another requirement was that there were enough sinks and practical workspace to accommodate for all of the students and various uses. The room was a challenging shape with obtruse angled walls which our design team had to consider when space planning.

What we did

We installed a TeacherWall at the front of the room with an integrated desk to provide functionality and storage for the teacher. In addition, we fitted a StorageWall which would house all of the art equipment.

Pinnacle created workspaces in the form of two large collaborative work benches, with integrated portfolio storage in a jade and white colour scheme. We added Capacity Art Storage throughout the room and along the back of the room we fitted three sinks, as per the client’s original brief. We created further workstations by providing some project tables to allow the teacher and students the flexibility they needed when working. Durable Postura Plus stools were dotted around the room for the students and a Merlin operator chair was supplied for the teacher.

The finished look is a soothing and functional room, which will provide the students with the perfect environment to create some fantastic masterpieces!
