Heathfield School

Pinnacle Furniture was given complete freedom to create a 6th form study space at Heathfield Community College. The interior design team combined the racing green with contemporary lime, neutral grey and stylish wood grains to give the 6th form common room an adult yet fun vibe.

The Brief

The provision of a variety of seating allows the students to find the location that best suits their study method, whether in informal booths or private study carrels. The space incorporates study carrels for individual working, banquette seating for a social, relaxed atmosphere and circular bistro tables for small group discussion. The wave benching was specifically designed for this project and was at a high level to define different learning styles and discussion groups. The high café style benching provides extra provision for using PCs and makes use of all available space in the common room. The Connect office-style desking is very space-efficient and enhances the adult feel of the common room.

The EN chair used is very durable and has great ergonomic support; the chair’s curved seat profile aids overall comfort and promotes good posture. The Invest seating is made from an extremely robust material that retains the beauty of real wood grain.

What we did

The chair’s aesthetics tie in well with the colour scheme and its reverse cantilever frame co-ordinates with the EN chair for continuity. The EN stool is perfect for the wave benches and matches the EN chair. The curved waterfall front of both the EN and the Invest chairs ensure maximum comfort and prevents loss of circulation in the legs.

Our LockerWall system was installed to provide storage for each pupil with digital locks to provide a high level of security, essential in a 6th form area. The mixture of coloured doors has a stunning impact and complements the fun, informal atmosphere in the common room.

The sleek Welcome reception counter provides a place for an adult to supervise the students in the new area. The manifestation on the walls brightens and enhances the dynamics of the space. Overall, the study space is bright, friendly and mature, perfect for 6th formers to learn and relax.
