The Brief
Based in Enfield, Kingsmead School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form. We have previously worked with the school, fitting 6 of their laboratories in 2018, the school liked our work so much they wanted us to come back to create their new ground floor washroom.
The school wanted a full refurb of the washroom to modernise the space in line with the rest of their school as well as making the space gender neutral. Like before, the brief also included the challenging element of working with an existing 3-storey concrete structured building from the 1960s.
What we did
The washroom opens onto to the corridor which can be easily monitored by teachers, however, to maintain an element of privacy for the students, full height solid grade laminate cubicle dividers and doors were fitted, this also has the added benefit of deterring anti-social behaviour. In the cubicles, the toilet cisterns and other pipes were covered by duct panelling, preventing students from causing damage or accessing spaces to hide contraband items. Push taps and sensor hand dryers were installed to prevent mis-use and to reduce energy and water consumption. As part of our package, a disabled toilet was also installed.
Mechanical works were completed, fitting extractor fans to purify the air. New lighting and flooring were installed into the space, and a blue checkerboard locker wall was fitted too. As the school colour is blue we introduced the schools branding to the space whilst ensuring the interior design was modern and inviting.
