North Bridge House School
The Cognita Schools Group turned to Pinnacle for our expertise in providing interior design services and furniture after their acquisition of North Bridge House in Canonbury.
|Number of students||490|
The Tudor Era building had previously been used for many years as a conference centre and looked tired and unappealing. Cognita knew they needed specialist help to transform the building and décor into a contemporary senior school and sixth form that would attract new students. Pinnacle created a full interior design scheme for all the furniture, materials and finishes for the entire building, including the common room, classrooms, library, staffroom, offices, music room, science laboratories and reception area. Materials used had to be appropriate for the building’s age and to complement its unique characteristics.
A unique feature of the School is that it was created out of 3 buildings joined together. This makes it confusing to navigate due to quite a few staircases and narrow, winding corridors and a navigation system was needed so that students could intuitively find their way around. The solution was to place bright, iconic furniture at key locations in the building that could be used as reference points. This provided an alternative to traditional navigation methods such as signage.
What we did
Pinnacle installed our TeacherWall system in the classrooms to support modern teaching methods and to provide a space-efficient way to store teaching materials. This is a bespoke fitted system and incorporates an interactive whiteboard and a built-in teacher’s desk.
Slip-resistant vinyl flooring was used in the washrooms, art rooms and science labs, and as this is an alien material for a building of this time period, it was supplied in striking modern colours such as vibrant pink and orange. Beautiful materials such as velvet were used in the sixth form common room, to provide luxurious touches while still being robust enough to stand up to sixth form use.
The client was thrilled with the end result, commending our design abilities and attention to detail. We are sure that the fresh and inspiring design will help the new college to attract more students who would love to learn in these stunning surroundings.
