Queensmead – Designing a sixth form common room that stimulates learning and success

Location: South Ruislip, London Borough of Hillingdon

Designing a cohesive Sixth Form Common Room

Pinnacle wanted to develop a sixth form space, which was practical with a contemporary feel, and which differentiated from the rest of the school. Creating a mature and versatile environment helps prepare the sixth former’s bridge the gap and transition between school and university.

Collaboration spaces

We created university-style meeting spaces for senior students, ideal for networking, brainstorming, and discussion. These included wigwam tables, complemented with polytone seating and a green banquette-style seating at the heart of the common room.

Private Study

We included individual den booths for quiet and focused learning.

Canteen seating

An open planned seating area for lunch and refreshments, which can be purchased from the servery.

Washrooms

We installed open plan washrooms with full height cubicles, inspired by a recent new build, to help minimise disruption and provide a better learning environment.

Having worked with Queensmead for several years we were truly excited when the opportunity for the re-design of the 6th Form came along. Working closely with the school our interior designer produced a number of options, and the chosen option was selected to meet the client’s budget for the project. The end result has created an inspiring space providing students with areas for quiet working, collaboration, or just relaxing with friends.
