The Brief

Reigate Grammar School in Surrey has an interesting history dating back to 1675 when the first foundation of the School was recorded. The School received a £4 million donation from The Peter Harrison Foundation to support the building of a new Sixth Form Centre. The plans for the Centre were created by Cindy Walters, an award-winning architect who had a mission to design the building to be innovate and environmentally sustainable.

Pinnacle Furniture were appointed by the client to provide the furniture for the Centre and we worked closely with the architect to create learning zones which complemented the architectural features of the new build. Within the brief there were various areas involved, including an open-plan library, an ICT area, several classrooms and a canteen with breakout space.

What we did

The building has beautiful high ceilings with wooden beams on display creating a rustic, contemporary feel against the landscape surrounding it. The Centre consists of mainly open plan areas with an eclectic mix of glass and wood. Upon being appointed by the School, we liaised closely with the architect to agree the finishes, colours and products to use. Collectively, we all felt it was important that the furniture worked in harmony with the natural but modern style of the building.

For the library, we provided soft seating in a combination of blue, green and grey fabrics, with wooden coffee tables. In other areas of the Centre, we supplied desks with oak effect worktops and blue smart classroom chairs to reflect the colour scheme of the library. We added IT benching with cable management in the ICT area, keeping the space presentable and clear of any cables.
