The Brief
Richmond Upon Thames College is one of London’s longest established further education colleges based in Twickenham, London. The College wanted an exciting new flagship building to help bring together their innovative vision for a new learning space located within the grounds of the current college site. We worked with the College, ISG and Atkins to design and deliver furniture that reflected their brief. The furniture had to be flexible and durable for long term educational use and the design scheme needed to compliment the College’s colours.
The project was constructed to BREAAM excellent standard and the furniture supplied was FSC® certified. The overall project needed to be completed to a tight schedule, so it was essential all our furniture samples were reviewed and signed off by the client within the time frame.
What we did
On the ground floor of the building, we fitted bespoke reception units incorporating the College’s branding and logo to create a stunning visual impact. The open learning area has a mix of soft furnished sofas and modular systems that mirrors the College’s corporate colours along with bright banquette dining tables and benches that add a burst of colour in the large space.
In the classrooms, we selected chairs and tables with black sled frames and practical desk screens. In the specialist classrooms we fitted functional DT workbenches, food technology appliances and storage. In the art rooms we installed bespoke fitted art furniture including lockable vertical portfolio storage for optimum efficiency. For the staff members, the boardroom includes a large table with integrated USB, power and data and the tabletop finish matches the bespoke storage around the perimeter of the room. We also included soft seating in the staff offices with teapoints and staff lockers. We are proud to have been involved in a momentous project and hope that both the students and the community enjoy their new learning space.
