The Brief

Sir Frederick Gibberd College (part of Burnt Mill Academy Trust) Is a 3-storey 1,200-place secondary school including a 500-place Sixth Form constructed by Caledonian Modular.

This DfE college plays a fantastic role in its local community, aiming to create a learning facility where every young person, regardless of their background, can have an education that gives them the qualifications, skills, and habits to be successful in life.

Our brief from the school was to create an inspiring, rewarding, and exciting space to support their mission to transform lives through education.

What we did

As part of our consultancy service, the first stage of the project was to understand the requirements to ensure our recommendations were viable. It was through this process that the team understood on a personal level what the new build school meant for the staff and community. The main objective was for the school to be an extension of home for some students offering facilities beyond core education for example, excellent dining and LRC facilities.

We supplied the entire FFE package for the college including specialist elements such as; DT Equipment, Fume Cupboards, AV Equipment/Curtains, Sports/Activity and Studio Equipment, Gym Equipment and Bleacher Seating.

As the college was being built from the ground up, in the two years it took to build, the students and staff were using a temporary building. We supplied the furniture for the temporary facility, we then incorporated that furniture into our new design as legacy furniture to save on the budget. The college had quite a tight budget and it was through problem solving solutions like this that Pinnacle were able to stick to the budget whilst meeting the expectations of the design.

Pinnacle found our soft landings scheme was very beneficial to everyone involved as there was a vast array of specialist furniture across the college. Our equipment trained team went back to the college to show school staff how to use the products, such as the remote-control retractable bleacher seating. The training was also filmed and edited into a video to ensure staff could go back to it should they need to.
