Wellington College appointed Pinnacle Furniture to refurbish their Physics department and create a modern and flexible learning space.
|Value of project||£400,000|
|Weeks on site||13|
|Number of staff||18|
|Number of labs||7|
Wellington College is situated in 400 acres of leafy land in Crowthorne, Berkshire. The School is one of the worlds top coeducational boarding and day schools and is a living memorial to the Duke of Wellington. The client required specialized science laboratories that included mobile pedestals with sockets which could be relocated from floor box to floor box, allowing the room to be reconfigured. The project was split between their old and new building and included a prep room, prep room corridor, physics block common area, sixth form study area and a Head of Physics office.
What we did
At the start of June, we began works on the old building then early July started phase two in the new building. We ensured a smooth handover as the Physics department was completed out of school term time, minimizing inconvenience to the staff and students.
During the design process, we liaised with the Head of Physics and the Facilities team to finalize specifications and colour schemes of the project. We removed walls, layed new flooring throughout the rooms, and plastered walls to remove existing brickwork. We decorated ceiling lighting, plastered fuse boards and distribution boards and in the prep room created PPA and storage space. For the science laboratories, we created a sample pedestal to sign off before production and ensured that technicalities and safety were addressed during the design stages.
Overall, whilst it was a large project, Pinnacle carried out each stage efficiently from programming on site, communicating between the department and estates team, designing flexible teaching spaces and ensuring the scope of both the building and furniture works. We are proud to have created a flexible and functional space for Wellington College.
