8th March 2021 is International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
We want to take the opportunity to get to know one of our Project Managers, Philippa Moss, and celebrate her achievements with us.
Philippa began her career in the furniture industry on the bench, making kitchens and bespoke furniture, and since then has been managing residential and bespoke furniture projects for a variety of companies and clients. Her role expanded and evolved into project management, a side of the role that she really enjoys.
Philippa is passionate and driven to make a positive difference in the school environment to inspire learning. She joined Pinnacle Furniture 5 years ago as she saw an opportunity to combine her love for education with her project management skills.
The best part of my job is feeling that I am improving learning environments.
Philippa loves engaging with the end user (students and teachers) and helping them to create a space that really works for them. Last year, she worked on a new build STEM building at Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC). The project involved a variety of spaces including breakout spaces, social spaces, laboratories, laboratory prep rooms, a mac suite, and general classrooms. It was key to the project to understand how the spaces would be used so engagement with the end user was really valuable. The key breakout areas and the student social space were specifically designed to create a calm atmosphere for students that is comfortable and encourages collaboration and socialisation.
For the science laboratories and prep room, we obtained a very detailed brief from the science technicians explaining the engagements that they require. This helped us produce specific items and detailing, such as the bespoke design island in the prep room, to facilitate their legacy fume bubble and water ioniser.
Philippa is currently working on a couple of large DfE projects for Watling Academy and Sir Frederick Gibberd College which have many complex elements and phases to them. Now both projects are nearing completion, case studies will be coming to the website soon!
Philippa’s favourite project so far is the bespoke science laboratory installation at Brighton College. By being involved in the early design stages, Philippa was able to support the College and achieve their ambition. Part of the project included the use of a bespoke StorageWall. The StorageWall is usually a standard product that we use in many projects, but the StorageWall for Brighton College was adapted and made bigger to suit the client’s needs and space. Philippa loved working with the College and Pinnacle Design Team to find a solution that met the College’s needs.
Philippa loves her role as Project Manager and believes that everyone should be able to do whatever role they want to in life regardless of gender. These opportunities should be created and available to everyone. #IWD2021
